Prayer for forgiveness

Let us make ourselves humble in heart so that we can reflect on our faults and failings. Today we have come here to the Lord in order to gain forgiveness and mercy for our wrongdoings. The Lord is kind and faithful. He hates the sin but loves the sinner. Though there are 99 good sheep in the sheepfold, he still ventures in search of the one that is getting lost.

His mercies are everlasting and his goodness has no end, the scripture says that his mercies are renewed every morning and his faithfulness is great. On the other hand he is a just and righteous God who does what is right and hates what is evil. He gave us life and made us his children. Therefore, now let us bow down and remember our iniquities and sins.

(Please bow down and remember all of your sins for a minute.)

After you have remembered all your sins, please say one our father.

Now let us remember that in the prayer of Our father that you just prayed, our Lord says, "Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us." That means we will be judged according to the way we judge others. Hence, please spend a minute to forgive everyone who has ever hurt you or tried to cause you harm.
Let go of those old grudges and forgive them for what they did or tried to do against you no matter how big or small.

Now that you have forgiven them, let us proceed to say the prayer for forgiveness.

Oh holy and ever living God, I have sinned against you and I am here truly sorry for all my sins. I despise my old ways of life and my transgressions against you which I have committed knowingly or unknowingly. I have forgiven those who have hurt me. With your help and loving kindness, I resolve to turn away from evil ways and receive your merciful grace.

Protect me my Lord from temptations and all evils and keep me by your side so that I may love and serve you all the days of my life. I receive your forgiveness In Jesus name. Amen.
Now thank the Lord for the forgiveness that he bestows upon us all.
